NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cornwall were well represented at last weekend's ESMBA National Championships in Melton Mowbray with 12 places out of a maximum possible 16 across the four disciplines.

The championships started on Thursday with the Singles with no local bowlers progressing from the round robin stage.  Steve Williamson (Luxulyan) was drawn in Group One where he lost all three group games, 4-19 to Bob Naylor (Wiltshire), 5-13 to Peter Whale (West Sussex) and 5-13 to Billy Chapman (Cambridgeshire).  Peter Hore (Holmans) was drawn in Group Seven picking up one point with a 8-8 draw to Steve Steward (Wiltshire) and losses to Edward Law (East Sussex) 1-15 and Jody Frampton (Kent) 6-14.

Mark Williams (Lanteglos) was drawn in Group Nine where he lost all three games, 5-13 to Greg Wade (Essex), 10-12 to Josh Hale (West Midlands) and 6-10 to Mark McHugh (Greater Manchester).  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) was drawn in Group Fourteen where a 14-4 win against Josh Burrow (Humberside), a 9-9 drawn against Steve Adsett (West Sussex) and a narrow 11-12 loss to Dave Andrews (Suffolk) was not enough to take Nigel through to the knockout stages.

Friday saw better fortunes for Cornwall with both Pairs progressing from the group stages only to meet in the first round of the knockout stages.  Peter Hore (Holmans) & Karen Watson (Saltash) were drawn in Group Three where they picked up wins against Ian Bratton & Josh Burrow (Humberside) 12-7 and Craig Burgess & Mitchell Young (Essex) 9-8.  A 7-8 loss to Brian Baker & Lynn Dean (Dorset) left Peter and Karen top of the group by one shot over the Dorset pairing.

Elise Daniell & Luke Jolly (Holmans) were drawn in Group Fourteen where they picked up wins against Julian Bradbury & Neil Pratley (Oxfordshire) 17-5 and Hazel & Phil Spry (Cambridgeshire) 14-4, a loss to Michael Doorey & Danny Hogben (Hampshire) left them in second place in the group.

In the knockouts the two local pairs were drawn against each other with Peter & Karen prevailing 13-8.  In the last 16 round Peter and Karen were defeated 8-5 by Adam & Thomas Perris (Devon).

On Saturday attention turned to the Fours with four teams representing Cornwall.  Chris Jennings, Rosie Glover, Eileen Williams & Mark Williams (Lanteglos) were drawn in Group Two where they won 8-3 against Leon Webb, Lee Webb, Kevin Dawson & Jimmy Whitehouse (Shropshire), losses to Robin Armstrong, Paul Butler, Stephen Jeffery & Peter Whale (West Sussex) 3-9 and Christine Bratton, Ian Bratton, Ray Murphy & Josh Burrow (Humberside) 8-9 left them in third place in the group missing out on the knockout stages.

Martin Boraston, Mark Slack, Caroline Trubshaw & Alan Trubshaw (Duloe) were drawn in Group Three where they drew 6-6 with Gary Allard, Chloe White, Darren Allard & Mike Leale (Kent) and lost 5-7 to Bill Gearing, Toni Gearing, Neil Rixon & Julia Bruce (Hertfordshire) and 4-9 to Sue Tuttle, Marek Wazydrag, Steve Tuttle & Mark Jones (Surrey) to finish bottom of the group.

Steve Williamson, Austen Runnals, Christine Worth & John Worth (Luxulyan) were drawn in Group Ten where they won 10-4 against David Watts, Phil Cheese, Howard Southwood & Santo Orlando (Oxfordshire) and lost 7-10 to Angharad Brideaux, Angela Norbury, Paul Norbury & Peter Roberts (Greater Manchester) and 4-5 to Steve Buckett, David White, Alistair McCrea & Ben Pay (Hampshire) to finish third in the group.

Elise Daniell (Holmans), Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity), Peter Hore (Holmans) & Karen Watson (Saltash) were drawn in Group Eleven where they put together an unbeaten run to top the group with a +30 shot advantage.  Wins came against Les Woodward, Simon Faulkner, Chris Hasker & Gareth Davies (Oxfordshire) 12-4, Ste Tinsley, Dave Blackburn-Woods, Jay Finney & Dan Rigby (Cheshire) 10-7 and Malcolm Warwick, Jeff Branch, Jan Rogers & Jeanette Gaylor (Hertfordshire) 20-1.  Into the last 32 round of the Knockouts they won 11-4 against Alex Tymon, Trevor Tymon, Chris Davison & Shane Davison (Hampshire).  In the last 16 round they defeated Cheryl Graham, John Sewell, Donna Mills & Michael Rice (Suffolk) 8-2.  Their run came to an end in the Quarter Finals with a 6-10 loss to Steve Buckett, David White, Alistair McCrea & Ben Pay (Hampshire).

The championships closed on Sunday with the Triples.  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity), Luke Jolly & Peter Hore (Holmans) were drawn in Group Three where they lost all three games.  3-16 to Trevor Brown, Debbie Sparham & John Sparham (Norfolk), 5-8 to David Dimmock, Alan Lodge & Chris Weston (Northamptonshire) and 7-8 to Joe Loveys, John MIlls & Becci Cox (Herefordshire).

Sandra Worton, John Worton & Steve Smith (St Newlyn East) were drawn in Group Ten where two wins saw them through knockout stages, 7-5 against Penny Lowe, Pauline Lowe & Stuart Lowe (Essex) and 10-3 against Lily Duffin, James Clark & Steve Duffin (North Yorkshire).  Their other group game ended in a 2-14 loss to Josh Hale, Peter Dunkley & Scott Follis (West Midlands).  In the first round of the knockout stages they won 9-8 against Chris Willies, Neil Davidson & Chris Mann (Norfolk).  Their run ended in the last 16 round with a 2-16 defeat to Jack Pye, AJ Brown & Gary Best. 

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
Over the coming weekend three local bowlers travel to Belfast for the conclusion of the Short Mat Players Tour season with the World Masters on Saturday & Sunday.  Before the main event the Belfast Open Pairs on Friday afternoon will give 96 pairs drawn into 32 groups a taste of the playing surface ahead of the weekend's Singles.

Elise Daniell teams up with Keith Lackford and they are drawn in Group one where they will face Nigel & Millie Froud and Kate & Arwel Morgan.  Peter Hore teams with Paul Seaman and they are drawn in Group nine where they will face Ed Sawbridge & Aaron Claire and James Trott & Mark Sproule.  Nigel Nicholls pairs up with Daniel Sands in Group Twenty Seven and will face Gunnar Frantzen & Andrew Cockcroft and Mark Hamilton & Aoife Fay.

The weekend then sees the biggest tournament of the season with 216 bowlers competing for the World Masters title drawn across 36 groups of 6 for the round robin stage of the competition.

Nigel Nicholls who is currently ranked 5th in the SMPT rankings with a win rate of 70.07% from 284 games, 77.14% from 35 games in the current season is drawn in Group Thirty One where he will face Shaun Amrein (IRE - Rank 599 - 45.83% from 24), Rory Gittoes (WAL - 53 - 57.41% from 54), Peter Roberts (ENG - 1 - 75.61% from 287) fresh from winning the English National title last weekend, Adrian McCaw (IRE - 216 - 37.50% from 96) and Sean Trainor (IRE - 109 - 63.64% from 77).  Group 31 Stats.  Nigel lies fourth in the season's Order of Merit standings with 491 points and currently occupies the final place in the England team for August's World Cup event.  Ed Sawbridge is 41 points behind Nigel with James Trott a further 21 behind.

Elise Daniell is currently ranked 32nd in the SMPT rankings with a win rate of 43.56% from 225 games, 51.52% from 33 in the current season, is drawn in Group Thirty where she will face Darren Davies (WAL - 270 - 73.33% from 15), Lorraine Shorney (ENG - 227 - 30.48% from 105), Shaun Morley (ENG - 347 - 47.83% from 23), Declan Hegarty (IRE - 698 - 8.33% from 12) and Ian Mcelroy (IRE - 332 - 46.88% from 32). Group 30 Stats.  Elise is currently 22nd in the Order of Merit standings with 329 points.

Peter Hore is currently ranked 39th in the SMPT rankings with a win rate of 54.22% from 225 games, 54.05% from 37 in the current season, is drawn in Group Eighteen where he will face Mark Spalding (ENG - 50 - 41.54% from 65), Tony McHugh (IRE - 429 - 35.71% from 114). Louis O Hara (IRE - 630 - 25.00% from 8), Noel Smyth (IRE - Tour debut) and Chris O' Kane (IRE - 232 - 42.11% from 19). Group 18 Stats.  Peter is currently 38th in the Order of Merit standings with 263.5 points.

BEBBINGTON CUP- County League Finals
On Sunday the Bebbington Cup competition to determine the overall County League Champions was played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club.

The four are league winners Newlyn Trinity Jowsters (West), St Newlyn East Phoenix (Central), Duloe Blues (East) and Blisland (North) played in a round robin competition to determine the winners.

The first round of games saw St Newlyn East against Duloe and Blisland against Newlyn Trinity.  The points were shared between St Newlyn East and Duloe.  Martin Boraston, Mark Slack, Lenny Lee & Chris Page winning 12-2 for Duloe against Carol Dodd, John Dodd, Carolyn Stanley & John Worton for St Newlyn East.  St Newlyn East's Ron Cartwright, Jim Stanley, Sandra Worton & Steve Smith survived a late comeback by Duloe's Alan Trubshaw, Caroline Trubshaw, Stephen Wilson & Jon Read to win 8-7.  

Newlyn Trinity took two comfortable wins against Blisland.  Alan Stephens, Robert James, Morgan Lees & Mike Dyer winning 13-3 against Max Burden, Richard Saulsbury, Rita Hancock & Keith Matthews.  Ken Weeks, Ernest Stevens, Simon Lees & Nigel Nicholls winning 14-4 against Rosemary Young, Phillip Rood, Henry Matthews & Mike Webster.

The second session saw St Newlyn East against Blisland and Duloe against Newlyn Trinity.  St Newlyn East took maximum points with Carol Dodd, Terry King, Carolyn Stanley & John Worton winning 13-2 against Max Burden, Richard Saulsbury, Rita Hancock & Keith Matthews.  Ron Cartwright, Jim Stanley, Sandra Worton & Steve Smith won 18-7 against Rosemary Young, Phillip Rood, Henry Matthews & Mike Webster.

Points were shared between Duloe and Newlyn Trinity.  Duloe's Jon Read, Roy Saxby, Caroline Trubshaw & Alan Trubshaw winning 11-5 against Alan Stephens, Robert James, Morgan Lees & Mike Dyer.  Newlyn Trinity's Ken Weeks, Ernest Stevens, Simon Lees & Nigel Nicholls took a 4 on the last end to beat Martin Boraston, Mark Slack, Lenny Lee and Chris Page 11-9.  With a session to play Newlyn Trinity lead with 6 points and 43 shots just ahead of St Newlyn East on 6 points and 41 shots with Duloe in third on 4 points and 39 shots.

The final session saw St Newlyn East against Newlyn Trinity and Duloe against Blisland.  Points were shared between Newlyn Trinity and St Newlyn East leaving both on 8 points with Newlyn Trinity ahead with 61 shots to St Newlyn East's 57 shots.  Ron Cartwright, Jim Stanley, Sandra Worton & Steve Smith won 12-7 for St Newlyn East against Ken Weeks, Ernest Stevens, Simon Lees & Nigel Nicholls.  Newlyn Trinity's Alan Stephens, Robert James, Morgan Lees & Mike Dyer won 11-4 against Carol Dodd, Terry King, Carolyn Stanley & John Worton.

Duloe ensured a third successive title with two wins against Blisland.  Chris Page, Lenny Lee, Mark Slack & Martin Boraston winning 14-5 against Max Burden, Richard Saulsbury, Rita Hancock & Keith Matthews. Jon Read, Roy Saxby, Caroline & Alan Trubshaw were 15-1 up inside 4 ends as they went on to win 25-3 against Rosemary Young, Phillip Rood, Henry Matthews & Mike Webster.  With three teams finishing on 8 points, the big win for Duloe over Blisland put them ahead on overall shots scored in the tie break.

COUNTY CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
Upon conclusion of the Bebbington Cup the County Champion of Champions was played on Sunday afternoon with 14 bowlers entered from across the county.

In the first round Lenny Lee (Duloe) won 13-5 against Steve Williamson (Luxulyan) scoring 7 shots over the last 4 ends of the game.  Steve Smith (St Newlyn East) only conceded two ends in defeating Jonathon Curtis (St Ives) 11-3.  Bob Banks (Boscastle) also only dropped two ends in defeating Peter Hore (Holmans) 11-2.  Tony Jago (Withiel) was in front throughout against Brenda Sleep (Dobwalls) winning 13-7.  Mark Payne (Penzance) won 11-4 against Simon Groves (Mabe).  Karen Watson (Saltash) only dropped one to defeat Percy Tripp (Helston) 12-2.  Gary Davey (Liskeard) and David Shaw (Wadebridge) had byes through to the Quarter Finals.

In the Quarter Finals Lenny Lee started with scores of 2 and 1 against Steve Smith but Steve went on to win seven of the next eight ends to win 12-4.  Tony Jago opened up a 6-0 lead against Bob Banks before Bob responsed to lead by 4 with two ends to play however scores of 2 and 3 on those last two ends saw Tony win 12-11.  Karen Watson and Mark Payne were tied at 4-4 after 5 ends before Karen closed out the game with 5 consecutive scoring ends to win 10-4.  Gary Davey was ahead from the 3rd end against David Shaw going on to win 13-5.

In the Semi Finals Steve Smith was 8-5 ahead against Tony Jago with three ends to play.  Tony picked up a 4 on the 9th end to move in front and followed up with scores of 1 and 2 on the last two ends to win 12-8.  Karen Watson was in control throughout against Gary Davey only dropping three ends through the game to win 13-5.

In the Final Karen quickly opened up an 8-1 lead after four ends against Tony Jago.  Tony won four of the next 6 ends but couldn't recover the deficit with Karen going on to win 11-5.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
This coming weekend attention turns to the National Championships being held at Melton Mowbray Indoor Bowling Club.

The championships begin on Thursday with the National Singles being decided with Cornwall having four players in the event.  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity), Steve Williamson (Luxulyan), Mark Williams (Lanteglos) & Peter Hore (Holmans).  Day Two on Friday sees two teams from Cornwall in the National Pairs.  Peter Hore (Holmans) & Karen Watson (Saltash) and Elise Daniell & Luke Jolly (Holmans).

Day Three, Saturday, will see four teams from Cornwall in the draw for the National Fours.  Elise Daniell (Holmans), Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity), Peter Hore (Holmans) & Karen Watson (Saltash), Martin Boraston, Mark Slack, Caroline Trubshaw & Alan Trubshaw (Duloe), Chris Jennings, Rosie Glover, Eileen Williams & Mark Williams (Lanteglos) and Steve Williamson, Austen Runnals, Christine Worth & John Worth (Luxulyan).  The National Triples bring the championships to a close on Sunday with two teams from Cornwall.  Sandra Worton, John Worton & Steve Smith (St Newlyn East) and Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity), Luke Jolly & Peter Hore (Holmans).

COUNTY LEAGUE FINALS
On Sunday the County League finals, the Bebbington Cup, will be played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club starting at 0900.

The competition see's 2 rinks representing each of the four areas.  West Area will be represented by Newlyn Trinity Jowsters who won the area title with a 23 point advantage over second placed Holmans having won 25 out of a possible 32 games across the season and 30 out of a possible 32 bonus points.  Central Area will be represented by St Newlyn East Phoenix who finished the season 2 points ahead of Withiel Elms,  despite winning fewer games across the season a superior number of overall match wins gave them the advantage.

East Area representatives will be Duloe Blues who are chasing a third consecutive title and finished 12 points clear of Saltash Blues having won out of a possible 28 games.  Blisland will represent the North Area having won 19 out of a possible 24 games and claiming maximum bonus points to finish on 62 points, 13 ahead of Lanteglos Bobcats.

After the conclusion of the Bebbington Cup competition at lunchtime Club Champions from across the county will compete for the County Champion of Champions title.

COUNTY TEAM OF THREE
The Holmans trio of Elise Daniell, Nicholas Truscott and Peter Hore claimed thier 8th County Team of Three title recently with a 65-28 aggregate win over Blisland's Max Burden, Rosemary Young and Rita Hancock.

The first leg played at Holmans on 14th March saw the home team take a big 1st leg advantage.  Peter Hore won the Singles 15 - 3 against Max Burden, Elise Daniell & Nicholas Truscott won the Pairs by the same scoreline against Rosemary Young and Rita Hancock.  The home team won the Triples 9-8 to take a 25 shot advantage on the night.

The second leg was played at Blisland on the 26th March.  Max Burden won the Singles 11-5 to close the gap to 19 shots overall.  In the Pairs Elise Daniell & Nicholas Truscott won 14-5 to extend their lead to 28 shots with 60 still to play for in the Triples.  Like in the first leg another close Triples match ended with a 8-7 win for the home team.

The Holmans trio add 2023/4 to the titles won in 2009/10, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2018/19, 2021/22 & 2022/23 and have now won the competition three years in a row on two separate occasions.

COUNTY FINALS
The final of the County Two Wood Singles and Four Wood Pairs were played at Carnmoggas on Saturday.

The Singles were played first with the eight qualifiers playing a straight knockout competition.  In the Quarter Finals Martin Boraston scored a maximum 8 shots over the closing 4 ends of his match against Duloe bowler Mark Slack to win 13-9.  Karen Watson (Saltash) was always in front against Mark Williams (Lanteglos) winning 13-6 with 3 ends to spare.  Steve Smith (St Newlyn East) started with a couple of maximum scores to lead David Studden (Holmans) 4-0 after the opening two ends.  David came back eventually drawing level at 9-9 after 12 ends and further scores of 2 and 1 to win 12-9 with an end to spare.  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) was always in front against Mark Payne (Penzance) winning 14-7.

In the Semi Finals Martin and Karen were 6 all after 8 ends before Martin took scores of 1 on 5 of the next six ends to win 11-7 with an end to spare.  David opened up a 6-2 lead against Nigel after 6 ends before 5 consecutive scores of 1 took Nigel into the lead 7-6 after 11 ends.  A score of 2 to David on the 12th end put him back in front before consecutive scores of 2 for Nigel gave him an unassailable 11-8 lead with an end to play.

The final saw Nigel open up a 7-0 lead after 5 ends.  Martin scored a two on the 6th end with Nigel responding with the same score on the 7th end to lead 9-2.  Martin came back with 5 consecutive scores of one to trail 7-9 with three ends to play.  Scores of 2, 1 and 2 for Martin over the closing ends saw him win 12-9 and take his second Singles title having won the County Singles in 2011/12.

Saturday afternoon saw the Four Wood Pairs title decided.  In the Quarter Finals Jon Read & Martin Boraston (Duloe) started with two scores of 5 against John Worton (St Newlyn East) & Joyce Harding (Luxulyan) going on to win 14-5 with an end to spare.  In an all Newlyn Trinity match up Ray Jeffery & Nigel Nicholls conceded just one end in defeating Simon & Morgan Lees 15-1.  Tony Jago (Withiel) & Steve Smith (St Newlyn East) looked to be in control against Austen Runnals & Steve Williamson (Luxulyan) leading 7-1 with two ends to play.  Runnals & Williamson scored a 6 on the penultimate end to draw level and take the match to a last end decider which Jago & Smith claimed the winning shot.  Keith Matthews & Max Burden (Blisland) were 11-2 up after 5 ends against Rob D'Agostino & Andy Jiggens (Kensey Vale) but failed to score again as the Kensey Vale pairing tool scores of 2, 7, 1 and 3 over the closing ends of the match to win 15-11.

In the semi finals 14 shots were on the board inside 4 ends of the match between Read & Boraston and Jeffery & Nicholls with Jeffery & Nicholls opening with a 6 on the first end countered by a 5 for Read and Boraston on the second end.  Jeffery & Nicholls scored 1 on the third end with Read & Boraston levelling the score at 7-7 after four ends with a score of two.  It was Jeffery & Nicholls who went on to win 13-10.  Jago & Smith with 8-1 up after 4 ends against D'Agostino & Jiggens going on to win 11-5.  The final was low scoring over the opening ends with Jago and Smith 3-1 up after 4 ends.  Two scores of 3 and one of 2 for Jeffery and Nicholls over the next three ends changed the course of the match at the title as they went on to win 11-3 with Nicholls taking his 9th and Jeffery his 2nd County Pairs title

NATIONAL UNDER 18'S SINGLES
For the first time in several years Cornwall was represented in the National Under 18's Championship played in Melton Mowbray on Saturday.  Oskar Bryan from Lanteglos made the trip for his first Short Mat competition at national level.  24 bowlers were entered, many of whom have been part of the England Academy squad throughout the season.  Oskar enjoyed an unbeaten run in the group stages winning 13-4 and 12-9 against opposition from Somerset and North Yorkshire respectively and drawing 8-8 against a player from Oxfordshire.  These results left Oskar top of his group and with 12 players through to the knockout stages and a bye into the quarter finals where he lost 5-12 to a bowler from Norfolk.

The season is drawing to a close with the County League Finals and County Champion of Champions to be played at Carnmoggas on the 7th April.  From the 11th to 14th April all eyes will be on the National Championships in Melton Mowbray where Cornwall has one of its largest contingents of players ever.  The following weekend, the 19th to 21st April sees the Short Players Tour Season conclude with the Belfast Open Pairs on the 19th and World Masters Singles on the 20th and 21st.

COUNTY FINALS
Last weekend saw the finals of the Short Mat Bowls County Finals at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club.

The first title to be decided on Saturday morning was the County Fours.  In the Quarter Finals a tight match between the Duloe team of Martin Boraston, Caroline Trubshaw & Alan Trubshaw overcome playing one short to defeat Landrake's Heidi Kerr, Dianne Shorthouse, Dennis Shorthouse & Richard Kerr 10-8.  A score of 5 of the fifth end for St Newlyn East's Sandra Worton, Carol Dodd, John Worton & Steve Smith was the key moment in their match against Landrake's Christopher Mortimore, Phil Searle, Graham Reeves & Neil Gribble as they went on to win 10-5.  Holman's Elise Daniell, Nicholas Truscott, Luke Jolly & Peter Hore were in front throughout against defending champions, Newlyn Trinity's Simon Lees, Ray Jeffery, Morgan Lees & Nigel Nicholls winning 12-8.  Duloe's Bryan Lewis, Stephen Wilson, Leonard Lee & Mark Slack were ahead throughout against Dobwalls' Graham Sleep, Eileen Taylor, Graham Bickle & Brendra Sleep winning 9-8.

In the Semi Finals the St Newlyn East Four won 6 out of the 9 ends against the depleted Duloe team skipped by Alan Trubshaw winning 12-4.  The other semi final between the Fours from Holmans and Duloe saw a couple of large scoring ends early on with Duloe taking a 4 on the 3rd end and Holmans a 7 on the next end to establish a lead they would not relinquish going on to win 15-7.  The final between St Newlyn East and Holmans saw Holmans open up a 5-1 lead in the opening four ends.  A score of 4 on the fourth end for St Newlyn East leveled up the score at 5-5 after five ends.  Scores of 1 and 3 on the next two ends moved St Newlyn East into the lead by 4 with two ends to play.  Holmans took scores of 1 and 2 on the last two ends to leave last year's runners up St Newlyn East as the winners with a 9-8 score line. 

Saturday afternoon saw attention shift to Individual honours in the County Singles.  The Quarter Finals saw Karen Watson (Saltash) take a comfortable 13-5 win against Neil Gribble (Landrake).  Martin Boraston (Duloe) eased past Gary Davey (Liskeard) 18-6.  Simon Lees (Newlyn Trinity) came from behind against Paddy Spear (Saltash Kernow) to win 10-8.  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) won 9 out of 11 ends to defeat Nigel Taylor (Penzance) 16-2.

The semi finals saw a tight match between Karen Watson and Martin Boraston with no more than 1 shot scored on each of the 11 ends with Karen having the adavanage winning 7-4.  In the all Newlyn Trinity match between Simon Lees and Nigel Nicholls, after leading by 1 shot after 5 ends Nigel moved ahead going on to win 15-5.  The final between Karen and Nigel saw the lead change hands several times.  Karen picked up scores of 1 on each of the first two ends.  Nigel took the next three ends with scores of 1, 1 and 2 to take the lead 4-2 after 5 ends.  Karen took back the lead with a score of 3 on the 6th end, Nigel scored 2 on the 7th end taking the lead once more.  Karen replied with a maximum 4 on the 8th end to retake the lead 9-6 with three ends to play.  Nigel won each of those last three ends with scores of 1, 2 and 1 to win the final 10-9.

Sunday morning saw County Pairs decided.  With one team having withdrawn Chris Jennings & Mark Williams (Lanteglos) received a bye to the Semi Finals.  Sandra & John Worton (St Newlyn East) won 7 of 11 ends against Ray Jeffery & Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) to win 9-5.  Caroline & Alan Trubshaw (Duloe) had three ends to spare in defeating Carol Dodd (St Newlyn East) & Eileen Williams (Lanteglos) 18-1.  David Cole & Karen Watson (Saltash) opened up a 7-0 lead against Steve Williamson & Austen Runnals (Luxulyan) before going on to win 9-6.

In the Semi Finals a score of 5 on the 9th end for Sandra & John Worton proved decisive as they defeated Chris Jennings & Mark Williams 10-8 despite winning fewer ends overall.  David Cole & Karen Watson needed just 8 of the allocated 11 ends to defeat Caroline & Alan Trubshaw 15-0.  In the final David Cole and Karen Watson opened up a 9-2 lead after 6 ends however they did not score again over the closing 5 ends of the game with Sandra & John Worton scoring 10 shots over the closing ends to take the title, and their second of the weekend, by a score of 12-9.

The final title to be decided on Sunday afternoon was the County Triples.  The Quarter finals saw Duloe's Mark Slack, John Read and Leonard Lee defeat Luxulyan's Diane Crocker, Joyce Harding and Shane Aldridge 12-3.  Kensey Vale's Andy Jiggens, Nick Trewin & Rob D'Agostino were 14-3 winners against John Moger (Boscastle), Bob Banks & Mark Williams (Lanteglos).  Holmans' Elise Daniell, Luke Jolly & Peter Hore were never headed but needed a score of 2 on the last end to defeat Duloe's Martin Boraston, Caroline & Alan Trubshaw 13-11.  Landrake's Dianne & Dennis Shorthouse & Richard Kerr were never headed in defeating Withiel's Graham Luke, Tony Jago & Ken Horrell 9-5.
The Semi finals Mark Slack's Duloe Team took a crucial score of 3 on the penultimate end against Kensey Vale to win 8-6.  Holmans were ahead throughout against Landrake winning 12-5 with an end to spare.  The final saw Holmans pickup 4 on the first end to establish a lead they would nor surrender.  Consecutive scores on the 5th to 8th ends effectively sealed victory at 12-3 win for Holmans with an end to spare.

The Finals continue this coming Saturday with the County 2 Wood Singles and 4 Wood Pairs at Carnmoggas.  The Singles get under way at 0900 with the Pairs following at around 1100.

The first leg of the Team of Three final was played at Holmans on the 14th March with the home team of Nicholas Truscott, Elise Daniell & Peter Hore taking a 25 shot advantage over opponents Blisland's Rosemary Young, Rita Hancock & Max Burden.  The individual scores Singles Peter Hore 15-3 Max Burden; Pairs Elise Daniell & Nicholas Truscott 15-3 Rosemary Young & Rita Hancock; Triples Elise Daniell, Nicholas Truscott & Peter Hore 9-8 Rosemary Young, Max Burden & Rita Hancock.

Also on Saturday Lanteglos' Oskar Bryan will be the first bowler for many years to represent Cornwall in the ESMBA Under 18's Championship.
